Luxury Family Holidays in the Sun in the Indian Ocean

With so many super-family-friendly hotels and resorts – most notably in Mauritius and Seychelles, but increasingly in the Maldives too – the Indian Ocean is a fabulous destination for winter sun holidays with kids. Mauritius is equally a good choice for those looking for a dose of early- or late-summer sun, perhaps with pre-school kids, this super-child-friendly island is ideal – think May, June, September and October. June to August is the best time for surfing in the region.

Bear in mind that the Indian Ocean as a whole may be too hot for younger kids at any time of year and especially in the region’s own summer (November–April), although if you're booking a hotel or resort with a kids’ club it will be air-conditioned and provide respite from the hottest times of the day - also handy during the wet season (Mauritius January-March; Seychelles and Maldives May-September; the latter can have strong winds and rough seas, so it isn't the best time to go).

Traditionally these destinations were thought of as couples/honeymoon destinations but times have changed. There are many wonderful hotels that offer fantastic facilities for families looking for a memorable family holiday with turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and, of course, sunshine.
