Family-friendly places to stay in Canada

As in the USA, many Canadian hotel rooms come standard fitted with two double beds, making them ideally suited for family holidays.

Delta Hotels and Resorts (, located all over Canada, are family-friendly mid-priced options offering free accommodation to under-18s sharing a room with a parent or guardian and a children’s menu (free to under-7s, half-price to ages 7–12). In Toronto, the Delta Chelsea has Family Fun Suites with two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a play area, plus all the babies’ and children’s amenities you can imagine and a pool with a corkscrew waterslide. In Montreal, the Delta Centre-Ville also has a pool, plus a revolving restaurant and a ‘children’s creative centre’, while the Delta Ottawa Hotel & Suites has a separate family pool with a waterslide in its Family Fun Zone.

The all-suites Residence Inn Toronto Downtown also gets the thumbs-up from families for its large living areas with sofabeds and its full kitchens. Other eastern Canadian Residence Inn locations are Montreal and Ottawa.

For a splurge in Toronto, the Fairmont Royal York offers various family-friendly room configurations, a children’s wading pool in addition to its lap pool, and a deli and bakery in addition to several restaurants. Packages include tickets to family musicals.

For Niagara, try the Country Inn and Suites, while in Montreal Le Square Phillips Hotel & Suites is popular for its family suites with alcove-beds for kids and kitchenettes, its indoor pool and its on-site launderette.

If you're moving around, a motorhome will save you money on accommodation and eating out while allowing you the flexibility to explore at least part of this vast country (check touring deals with Virgin holidays).
