In trendy Watergate Bay on the west coast of Cornwall, 10 minutes from Padstow and 3-miles from Newquay, this is a great place to bring older kids and teens, for the excellent surfing conditions and on-site surf school, Extreme Academy. But if you're travelling with younger children, there's still plenty to do, indoors or on the magnificent two-mile stretch of beach. The 25m ocean-view infinity pool is a must (in summer, bi-folding glass doors open it to the outdoors), while parents can enjoy yoga sessions, spa treatments and a hot tub. Local attractions include the Eden Project a 30-minute drive away.
Childcare (free for hotel guests) runs through the school holidays for ages 3-12. For younger guests, the childcare facility is open throughout the year, with qualified staff with First Aid training. Evening sessions are also available, as is a babysitting service (at an additional cost).
The three on-site restaurants (plus Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen on the top floor of the Extreme Academy surf school) and takeaway serve dishes to suit all tastes and budgets, including wonderful cream teas, and combined with the boutique-style rooms and friendly staff bring discerning parents back year after year.
Rooms include Family Suites for up to five, with bunkbeds for kids, a fridge and all mod cons, in a setting resembling a beach house. This is also a dog-friendly hotel, so you needn't leave your four-legged friend back home.
