Gardaland Resort, Italian Lakes

Rides at Gardaland.Rides at Gardaland.

On the south-eastern shore of Lake Garda, a family holiday hotspot in the Italian Lakes, this is one of Italy's top themeparks and makes for a brilliant day out with the kids if you're staying in the area.

The resort is set around four themes – history, geography, space and fantasy – and has rides, attractions and shows suited to all ages, including the Colorado Boat log flume, Jungle Rapids and indoor laser ride, Ramses.

Also on-site, and great if you make a short break of it at one of the on-site hotels and spend a second day at the themepark, is the Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium.

Best for: All ages

Where to stay

Gardaland Resort has two hotels of its own - the original Gardaland Hotel and the new-in-2016 Gardaland Adventure Hotel. Alternatively, check out our recommendations for family-friendly cottages, villa, holiday parks, campsites and hotels in the area.

Opening times vary from 10am-6pm from March to mid-June to 10am–11pm mid-June until September. Outside the main summer season, the park is open for special events including Oktoberfest, Halloween and Christmas.

Gardaland is a 90-minute drive from Milan (the nearest airport) and 2km from the nearest mainline train station at Peschiera del Garda, from where there's a free shuttle bus every 30 minutes during park opening hours.

The themepark has an abundance of places to eat, from sit-down restaurants with à la carte menus to fast-food options including snack bars and kiosks with ice cream, sweets and drinks.

General day tickets start at about €40pp, with discounts available when you book online in advance.

Children under 1m height go free.

Half-day tickets are also available throughout the week, while 2-day tickets are ideal if you are looking to experience both the themepark and the aquarium.
