On the south-eastern shore of Lake Garda, a family holiday hotspot in the Italian Lakes, this is one of Italy's top theme parks and makes for a brilliant day out with the kids if you're staying in the area.

The resort is set around four themes – history, geography, space and fantasy – and has rides, attractions and shows suited to all ages, including the Colorado Boat log flume, Jungle Rapids and indoor laser ride, Ramses.

Also on-site, and great if you make a short break of it at one of the on-site hotels and spend a second day at the themepark, is the Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium.
