Family Holidays with Tennis
Whether you fancy hitting the courts for a friendly family match, learning new skills from professional coaches or introducing your children to a sport you love, we have some wonderful luxury resorts with excellent family-friendly tennis facilities. Tennis is such a fun sport for the whole family – and what could be better than playing in glorious sunshine at one of our offerings around the world?
Children’s tennis academies
Whether your child is new to tennis or ready for some coaching in a sport they already love, our hotel tennis academies are a popular element of a luxury holiday. Many of our hotels offer tennis academies with daily coaching sessions for groups of children of similar ages/abilities, and sometimes also tournaments.
Tennis for adults
There's also the option to sign up for adult lessons, whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced player looking to improve aspects of your game. Some hotels also organise social tennis sessions, so you can sign up for friendly matches with other guests.
Should we take our own tennis rackets and balls?
Some people prefer to take their own rackets to play with, but many hotels have rackets to borrow, including smaller ones for children. Our hotel tennis centres can also provide balls but usually for an additional charge. Most children's tennis academies have graded balls for children, much like LTA tennis centres use in the UK, including softer balls for younger children.
What are padel tennis and pickleball?
These have seen a huge surge in popularity in recent years, and more and more hotels are adding courts –ask us about ones we can book for you.
Padel is a fast-paced, wall-bouncing cross between tennis and squash that can result in some epic rallies. It's played on a court a third of the size of a tennis court, surrounded by walls of glass and fencing. As with squash, the ball can bounce off any wall, but it can only bounce off the court once before being returned. Points are scored when the ball bounces twice in the competitor’s area. As the name suggests, the racquet looks a little like a paddle, with a solid frame and a foam core. Balls are similar to tennis balls but are smaller and softer. The game is quick and easy to learn, making it a fun and addictive sport to play, for children and adults.
Pickleball is an easy-to-pick-up, fun sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. The court is the size of a badminton court, and the net is a shorter version of a tennis net. Rackets are solid (wood or composite materials), and the ball is a hollow plastic ball with lots of holes in it. Its simple rules make it easy to learn. Points are scored when the ball bounces twice or either player/team make a mistake (e.g. hit the net or hit out of the court). The winner is the first player/team to reach 11 points. As you develop your skill, the game can become fast-paced and competitive,
