Family City Breaks in Africa and the Middle East
You’re unlikely to go much further than Morocco for a city break lasting a long weekend, but many family holidays in Africa or the Middle East may well include a few days in a city, seeing the sights.
Unlike in Europe, in most cities in the region, including Cape Town, Marrakech and Dubai, you’re unlikely to choose self-catering accommodation – hotels tend to be less hassle when you’re far from home and the food and shops less familiar. While more expensive, hotels also leave you more time to enjoy everything that cities have to offer for families, from museums to malls and playgrounds, and to enjoy their family-friendly restaurants.
When choosing a city hotel for a family, things to particularly look out for are room/suite size and promixity to major sights and to easy public transport options. It’s often handy to choose a hotel with a pool when staying in a city too, particularly in warmer climes – they can be very useful after a sweaty day out exploring.
