Luxury Family Holidays in the Sun in Latin America
With much of Latin American close to the Equator, there’s little temperature variation across the year, making this a good choice for a holiday with the kids throughout the year. This makes Costa Rica, in particular, a popular year-round destination.
Mexico has two high seasons, one runs through our summer holidays and the other lasts from December to April, and prices reflect this. May to September is also very hot and humid in the coastal resorts. So with younger kids in particular, you might like to think about getting your summer sun a little closer to home! If you do go at this time of year, choosing a hotel or resort with childcare facilities where they can play indoors at the hottest times of day is a very good idea. On-site water sports are also a boon. See our special offers and latest deal with all-inclusive activity holiday partner Club Med. November is an interesting time to take kids to Mexico because of the Day of the Dead celebrations (2nd), while cities get extra lively at Easter with Semana Santa (Holy Week) celebrations.
Overall, this being a huge region, so it’s hard to generalise about the suitability of the various Latin American countries for family holidays at different times of year but take a look at the ‘When’ sections of our family-friendly destination guides to Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador and the Galapagos, and Peru for full details on the best times to take the kids to these fascinating destinations.
