Mallorca is a fabulous place to take the kids – and when you throw in two wheels to explore the south of the island, you have the perfect adventure for all the family.

This self-guided 6-night active family holiday lets you can choose how much to push yourselves and how much to kick back and relax. Itineraries offer a real insight into rural, unspoilt Mallorca away from the beach resorts. Routes are low impact but include occasional short ascents that get you to some of the island's most scenic locations.

Bikes, maps and routes are included, and suggestions are put together to suit your family according to abilities and ages. Child-seats and helmets are provided at no extra charge.

You stay in two agroturismi, hosted by friendly families providing breakfast and dinner. One is a converted farmhouse, the other a 19th-century building; both have an outdoor pool for well-earned dips after an active day on the bikes. And if you want to extend your stay to see more of the island, accommodation can also be booked in the Mallorcan capital Palma.

When

Cycling trips can be taken between March and October.

Stay

You will stay on two working farms:
Es Torrent, Campos: a converted farmhouse with home-cooked meals, simple en-suite rooms, an outdoor pool and a terrace.
Son Mercadal, Porreres: a 19th-century building with lots of outdoor space, a pool and a terrace, plus rustic, characterful rooms.

Breakfast and dinner are provided in both properties.

Price

£870 for over-16s. £695 per child (up to 15). £525 per child aged 9-15 years in extra bed and £495 per child aged 3-8 years in extra bed. Prices based on 2 people sharing with additional 3rd or 4th beds if required and includes 6 nights' accommodation, 6 dinners, 6 breakfasts, luggage transport, any notes, maps and bike hire.

Itinerary

Days 1-2:

Explore southern Mallorca from your base in Campos, Es Torrent (your first accommodation). Cycle down the quiet lanes, spot the windmills and enjoy the fabulous beaches and quaint fishing ports in the area. Keep an eye out for Sa Ràpita (for its long sandy beach), Es Trenc (Mallorca's longest natural beach; perfect for swimming), Colònia de Sant Jordi (from where you can take a boat-trip to the uninhabited island and marine habitats of Cabrera, with some of the most scenic walks). Choose to cycle either 14, 22 or 37km over the 2 days.

Day 3:

Head north to the market town of Campos (the perfect place to dine and drink), then onwards through the countryside to your next accommodation (the agrotourismo Son Mercadal; your base for the rest of the trip). You will cycle a total of 27km today.

Days 4-5:

Choose the route that best suits your family for the last two days, exploring a selection of rural villages including, Es Pla, Mont-Sion and Porreres (famed for apricots and wine). Then wind back round to the accommodation to enjoy a dip in the pool and farewell meal. Choose between a 17, 25 or 27km cycle over these two days.

Extend your stay

Why not stay on for a few more days, head into the city and explore Palma before catching your flight home?
