Day 1: Arrive in the Lake District and check into the Keswick Country House Hotel. In the evening there will be a welcome meeting to meet your guide and discuss the planned week's activities. This is followed by dinner in the hotel.
Day 2: Enjoy a hearty breakfast before heading up into the surrounding hills on an exploratory hike with your guide, who will tell you about the local scenery and wildlife along the way. You may also visit caves or mines, depending on the day's route. There will also be a stop for a picnic lunch.
Day 3: Take to the water on Derwentwater, known as the 'Queen of the English Lakes'. There will be a choice of activities on offer, including Canadian canoeing and dinghy sailing, with instructors on hand to ensure everyone has as much fun as possible.
After a picnic lunch, you'll head off for some ghyll scrambling. Your instructor will lead you downstream through a series of jumps, slides and scrambles, with swimming or wading through deeper water.
Day 4: Today you are free to explore by yourselves. There are a number of nearby attractions you might like to visit or activities you can book locally. For families with older children, a popular option is the Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine - exploring a series of ladders and rungs that take you around the mine, allowing inexperienced climbers to reach areas they would otherwise be unable to reach - with a few adrenaline rushed and some amazing views, along the way.
Day 5: Weather permitting, today your guide will take you to a local rock face to climb and abseil (in inclement weather, you will use the indoor Keswick climbing wall instead). During the day you will have a picnic lunch.
Day 6: Your last day sees you take on the Borrowdale Challenge - a fun-filled family day, packed with games, activities and challenges such as archery, raft building, problem-solving and orienteering. A picnic lunch is included and then you will have a farewell dinner at the hotel in the evening.
Day 7: Today you say goodbye to the Lake District and head home - or, if you want, your stay can be extended for you.
Transfers to and from activities are included, along with all equipment, tuition and supervision from qualified instructors.
This is a self-drive holiday, so you will make your own way to the Lake District. However, if you'd prefer to travel by train, transfers from Penrith Railway Station can be arranged (extra charge). Once in Keswick, you won't need your own transport during the week.
