A Family Day Out at LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort

DUPLO® Valley Drench Towers and Splash Safari at LEGOLAND.DUPLO® Valley Drench Towers and Splash Safari at LEGOLAND.

We happened to visit LEGOLAND on one of the rare glorious summer days we have to make the most of in the UK. With suncream slathered on, bags packed with sandwiches and pocket money for ice cream, we set off to Windsor for a fun-packed family day out.

The ages of the five children in our group ran from two years to 10 (with under-threes getting free entry). Trickily, each of them had different interests and different thrill levels. So we made sure each got to choose a ride or activity. That said, there were some parts of LEGOLAND that had them all enthralled.

This was especially the case with DUPLO® Valley Drench Towers and Splash Safari. We’d made sure to pack swimsuits and towels, as we’d heard this was a popular area on a warm sunny day, and knew the kids would make a beeline for it.

The little ones enjoyed playing in the splash park, while the older kids headed straight for the top, where the slides are located, along with a giant LEGO® brick that constantly filled with water and drenched the entire area and all the children playing – to their delight.

Another hit amongst our brood was the LEGO City Driving School for ages six and up, and L-Drivers for three- to five-year-olds. After the brief televised driving tuition, the kids were let loose on the roads in their very own car. They had to drive round the mini village, overcome the obstacles and avoid those driving on the wrong side of the road (and there were quite a few!). Once finished, they were given their very own driving licence.

Time just seemed to fly by during our day, but one thing we found very handy was the Q-Bot, which allows you to book many of the popular rides while you’re on the go around the park, reserving times for you to head for the fast-track queue of your chosen attractions. With our age variations, and with it being a hot day in the height of the school summer holidays, this was a godsend and a gadget well worth investing in. Although the park isn't as large as some other theme parks around the UK, there is still a lot to do, and if like us you have a group of various ages wanting to visit different attractions, having some form of pre-planning to reduce your queuing time is a must.

Do also look at the height restrictions for some of the rides, to avoid disappointed little faces if you queue only to be turned away. We also recommend you pinpoint a selection of 'must-see' places to see and rides to try before you visit by checking out the website

All this said, we did feel that one day still wasn't enough and could have done with staying over to make a short break of it. LEGOLAND Holidays offers some great deals, staying at the on-site LEGOLAND Resort Hotel or nearby in one of the park's recommended hotels. They often offer free kids’ places or deals including a free second day in the park.

Reviews from some of our group:

Millie, aged four

“I liked the cars. I’m keeping the card (licence) in my purse. The Fairy Tale boat (Fairy Tale Brook) was good; Cinderella was my favourite.”

Hollie, aged eight

"I loved the water park (Drench Towers), but the water was so cold. We saw the LEGO Friends show (LEGO® Friends to the Rescue! in Heartlake City), which is my favourite. I wanted to go on the log flume (Pirate Falls Treasure Chest) but didn't have enough time."

Lottie, aged 10

"It was an exciting day. I liked going on the rapids (Vikings' River Splash) and Mia's ride (Mia's Riding Adventure in Heartlake City). It was so good that we could skip the queues to get to the rides faster.”

Perhaps best of all, our visit to LEGOLAND has inspired the kids to get their humongous collection of LEGO back out of the cupboards and get creative!
