Reasons to Book your Family Ski Holiday with Pierre & Vacances

Ski holidays are among those that families come to us for the most, for our advice and experience. There’s so much to bear in mind when booking a ski holiday with kids: which resort to choose, what kind of accommodation to choose, the booking of ‘extras’ such as ski lessons or childcare, ski equipment, and lift passes. And that’s before you’ve even thought about other activities that are increasingly a part of family ski holidays – everything from indoor water-park visits to husky sleigh rides.
'The winner of Take the Family’s Best Ever Family Ski Resort Award in the Over-7s category, Flaine is car-free, with lovely nursery slopes, lots of blue runs and a short (one-hour) transfer from Geneva Airport.'
We can take all the hassle out of organising your ski holiday by working with partners such as Pierre & Vacances, who offer comfortable, fully equipped self-catering residences, including premium options complete with spas where you can relax after your day on the slopes, whether in the pool with the kids or during an indulgent treatment.
PV also stands out for offering the possibility of booking your stay from Sunday to Sunday, to avoid expensive Saturday flights and long airport queues as well as reduce your carbon footprint, by avoiding the traffic jams caused by Saturday transfers to resorts. It also means you can enjoy the mountains on a calm Saturday, on empty pistes with queue-free ski lits, when many other travellers are sitting in traffic.
Pierre & Vacances also offer discounts on ski equipment – and by letting guests collect their lift passes from receptionists when they get their apartment keys (having checked in online to speed up the process), they allow you to get straight out to the ski shop to collect your equipment (and everything is quicker on a Sunday).
If you do arrive on Sunday, your lift passes can be ready to use from your arrival, or you can choose for them to start on Monday. They’re bookable from two to 13 consecutive days at all the relevant resorts, no matter what your arrival day.
Pierre & Vacances also encourage you to ‘travel smart’ by coming to the Alps by train via Paris, which requires shorter transfers from train stations. In general, there is greater availability of transfers on Sundays, too. (Note that the 2023–24 season Eurostar Snow Train via Lille runs on Saturdays, returning on Sundays).
Other benefits of staying at a Pierre & Vacances residence include the flexibility and savings made by cooking at least some meals in your apartment. Many also offer the convenience of ski-in/ski-out access, and they are well kitted out for families, with the like of games loan, swimming pools (indoor and/or outdoor) and children's areas. You can also bag a 20% discount on certain residences by booking directly online.
We’ve shared some of our favourite Pierre & Vacances resorts and properties for the winter season 2023/24.
Arc 1950
We love this safe, snow-sure, ski-in-ski-out resort for its car-free centre, its access to more than 425km of pistes, and its residences all with their own outdoor heated pool and indoor Jacuzzi. There’s skiing for everyone here, from groomed runs and funparks to forest runs and glacier skiing.
Recommended property: Premium Residence Arc 1950 Le Village
Méribel–Mottaret
This famous resort sits in the heart of the famous interlinked Three Valleys, linked to neighbours Courchevel, Val Thorens and Les Menuires by around 200 lifts that give access to more than 600km of piste. It offers good après-ski and plenty of family-friendly eateries. Meribel-Mottaret sits higher than Meribel Village itself, at an altitude of 1750m.
Recommended property: Premium Residence Les Crêts
Les Carroz d'Arâches
Lesser-known and much less flashy than many other resorts, this is a charming traditional alpine village with lots of facilities including an ice rink and a cinema. It’s part of the Grand Massif ski domain, giving lots of scope for all levels of skier as well as being great in itself for beginner children and adults.
Recommended property: Premium Residence Les Fermes du Soleil
Flaine
The winner of Take the Family’s Best Ever Family Ski Resort Award in the Over-7s category, this is a stylish purpose-built Grand Massif resort that’s safe and car-free, with lovely nursery slopes (with free lifts) and lots of blue runs to progress to. Another boon is that it’s a ski resort with a short transfer from Geneva Airport – just one hour.
Recommended property: Premium Residence Les Terrasses d'Eos
