A PGL Family Adventure Holiday from a Disabled Child's Perspective, Shropshire

My name is Riana Popat, I'm 14 years old and I have two brothers and one sister, aged 12, six and five. I've done many things despite being in a wheelchair, and I'm quite a traveller. I've been to many places, including America, India, Africa and various destinations in Europe. My mother and father want my brothers, sister and me to experience different kinds of holidays and cultures.

Among the things I’ve done are visiting famous sites such as the Taj Mahal, going to the beach and taking adventure holidays. I've also had holidays and breaks with school, including camping, Stratford-upon-Avon and the Alps. They were all great, and I've found that most of the big facilities have wheelchair access.

PGL Family Adventure at Boreatton Park was really good for us. I could do every single activity that everybody else did  – they had all the facilities and harnesses to ensure that I didn't miss out on anything. The activities were brilliant – quite challenging and scary but very good to do with the family, bringing us together. The instructors were exceptionally helpful and friendly.

My favourite activity was 'i.e.', a set of mind-challenging games – I enjoyed this because it was funny and different, but most of all because my brother and I got all of the games first. The high ropes was my other favourite. I didn’t think I could do it because it was very far off the ground, but I did and it was such a good experience. By the time I got to the end, I found I'd really enjoyed it.

The things that maybe weren’t so good were the meals and the size of the rooms. The food wasn’t top quality and was quite repetitive, and in my opinion dinner was served too early. The only food that was available after dinnertime was pizza. I also didn't like sleeping in bunkbeds or having to get up so early for breakfast and the first activities.

Overall, though, my experience at PGL was wonderful and I had masses of fun. I would recommend it to any family, especially a family who want thrill and adventure.
