Looking for some fresh family days out inspiration for weekends or the school holidays? We've rounded up the UK’s most deliciously dizzying spots to head for with kids.

LONDON

Up at the O2

Combining unique views over London with a nerve-jangling active challenge, this attraction involves a 90-minute guided expedition across the roof of The O2 via a tensile fabric walkway 53 metres above ground. Your goal is an observation platform offering 360° views including landmarks such as the Olympic Park, the Thames Barrier, The Shard and Royal Greenwich. Options include sunset and twilight climbs.

The View from The Shard

The viewing platform on Level 69 of The Shard holds the distinction of being the only place from which you can see all of London at once. A multi-media experience and zoomable ‘Tell:scopes’ fill you in on the city’s history, and the bravest have the option to climb to Level 72 to stand in the open air.

Emirates Air Line

The UK’s first urban cable-car takes you over the Thames between North Greenwich and the Royal Docks in 10 minutes, at a height of 90m. You even bring bikes on it.

BRIGHTON

Opened in 2016, this 162m ‘vertical cable car’/observation tower on the seafront close to the remains of the West Pier was designed by the same team as the London Eye. Rising slowly, the glass pod offers 360° views for a distance of up to 40km. A Sky Bar inside offers local drinks including Wobblegate apple juice and Harvey’s Sussex Best ale.

PORTSMOUTH

Spinnaker Tower

This 170m waterfront tower offers panoramic views of Portsmouth Harbour and its continental ferry traffic, the Solent and the Isle of Wight. View Deck 1 has a glass floor to walk over if you dare, while The Crow's Nest on View Deck 3 is open to the elements. The tower is also home to the Café in the Clouds.

DORSET

Jurassic Skyline (formerly the Weymouth SEA LIFE Tower)

This 53-metre tower turns through a full 360° to offer you unbeatable panoramic views of the Jurassic Coast  - England's first natural World Heritage Site - and over Weymouth Bay, Chesil Beach and Portland. Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park itself has more than 1,000 creatures to ogle, from penguins to sea turtles.

LANCASHIRE

Pepsi Max Big One, Blackpool Pleasure Beach

The UK's tallest rollercoaster climbs to 65 metres for views over the classic themepark and the coastline, before taking you at speeds of nearly 120km/h on a track more than 1.5 kilometres long.

LAKE DISTRICT

Scafell Pike

At 978 metres, England's highest peak is one for adventurous kids and energetic families, who will be rewarded for their efforts by some of the country’s most heavenly views.
