Luxury all-inclusive holiday pioneer Club Med has announced strong growth in the UK market and with it an ambitious road-map of resort openings over the the next three years. These will include their first private island, in the Seychelles, their first North American ski resort, in Quebec, a brand-new resort in historic La Rosière in the French Alps, and openings in other locations including Venice Lido, Lombok, Durban, Portugal's Alentejo region and China (where there will be three new ski resorts). The Canadian resort will be the brand’s first mountain resort to be open all year-round.
Club Med has also just announced its Happy to Care sustainability program, which includes commitments to eco-construction (all new resorts will be eco-certified BREEAM or equivalent, and all resorts will be Green Globe certified by 2021) and a ban on single-use plastics by 2021. Club Med already has a workforce comprised of 75% locals, meaning that it contributes strongly to its host communities (often a concern for those thinking about all-inclusive holidays). It also supports more than 400 local producers in agro-ecology around the world (the Club Med Green Farmers program supporting local family farming has been held up as a model for sustainable tourism).
Happy to Care will also include the work done under the auspices of The Club Med Foundation, founded in 1978, which fosters its employees' voluntary charity work and ensures that Club Med’s equipment is recycled for use by local organisations. The Foundation has raised almost €1 million since 2012 for more than 250 local charitable projects in 25 countries.
Founded in 1950, Club Med embraces nearly 70 premium resorts in stunning locations around the world, including North and South America, the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, Europe and the Mediterranean. Most are family-friendly, with kids' clubs that embrace plenty of sports and activities, including the likes of water sports, trapeze and circus skills, and all the family amenities you could dream of.
