Etihad Launches Flying Nannies

Tuesday 10 September 2013

Etihad Airways has collaborated with Norland College, a UK leader in training and education for nannies worldwide, on a specialist childcare training program for 500 of its cabin crew.

Wearing a bright-orange aprons, each 'flying nanny' will provide a 'helping hand' to parents and unaccompanied minors on Etihad's long-haul flights.

Explains Aubrey Tiedt, the airline's Vice President of Guest Services: "Flying with a young family can be a daunting task, even for the most experienced travellers, and the flying nanny role demonstrates [...] our commitment to make the journey as relaxing and comfortable as possible."

Among nannies' roles will be to keep children entertained while seated for long periods by teaching them simple arts & crafts, such as creating greeting cards for friends and family, and magic trick. For older children, there will be quizzes and challenges plus tours of the galley during quieter moments.

Near the end of the flight, the nannies will help parents replenish milk bottles and offer them water, fruit and other snacks, especially if the family has a connecting flight.
