A new study of family holiday trends has found that almost a quarter (23%) of British parents would go on holiday with their ex partner - especially if the latter footed the bill! The findings chime with the number of celebrities who have recently been seen holidaying with exes, including Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin in Mexico, Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie in Hawaii, and Gary Lineker and Danielle Bux in Los Angeles.
The ATOL poll showed that holidaymakers currently spend almost £700pp on their main yearly holiday and that a large proportion are happy to go with an ex-partner, in-laws or friends to save money - 42% of parents travel with extended family and 25% take multigenerational holidays with grandparents. Those happy to travel with in-laws, however, weighed in lower, at 11% - and the decision to do so generally hinged on getting a better holiday deal or on the in-laws paying for the trip.
Said Head of ATOL, Andy Cohen: “The tradition of the family holiday remains strong but the shape and size of these holidays is always evolving.”
