Travel Report Reveals Holiday Bargains

Thursday 24 January 2013

The Post Office Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer, published annually, has found that Spain has won back its claim to being the cheapest European holiday destination for British travellers. Outside Europe, Sri Lanka holds the crown. In third place came the Czech Republic, in fourth Bali and in fifth Vietnam

The report tallies up prices for a shopping basket of 8 items within 42 resorts to find the best-value places to stay. Prices were found to have fallen in about a third of the destinations, including 18% in Corfu, 20% in Egyptian Red Sea resorts, 22% in Turkey, and 26% in Barbados

The survey found that while a meal for two on the Costa del Sol averages £22, in Australia it is just over £100. Italy (Sorrento) was the most expensive of the six Eurozone destinations surveyed, and visitors to Thailand can now expect to pay about 22% more.
