If you’re after time out and want your kids to experience a holiday where everything slows down this might just be for you. Choose from a resort in Norfolk, Shropshire, Cumbria, Surrey, Somerset, The Highlands or Lincolnshire, each with their own unique feel but all chosen for the glorious countryside they’re sitting in.
Whether you’re after mountains, lakes, forest or rolling countryside, there will be one to suit your family. The activities on offer are plentiful but you won’t find any zorbing here; this is about getting your kids into their wellies and out into the great outdoors. Den building, tree-climbing and bug hunting are top of the list for all the old-fashioned favourites.
Watch as your kids shake off their teenage woes and remember what it’s like to stop and stare at the clouds or submerge themselves in a hot tub looking at the stars. If you can’t win them over through such wholesome activities, remember that some of the lodges are close to cities and towns where they can enjoy more action. All of the resorts have WiFi areas and some have firepits, which are perfect for self-absorption along with making new friends.
Budding conservationists and zoologists will enjoy being so close to nature and spotting a wide range of wildlife. Teach them the difference between a woodpecker and a warbler and watch their eyes light up as they spot their first badger. Sit on the deck in the evenings and count the bats as they come out to play or spoil yourself with a spa treatment on the very same deck (various resorts). Take the plunge if you’ve chosen a resort with a pool or just happily do very little.
Some resorts have games rooms and all of them have outdoor play areas for the kids, although the great outdoors itself may prove to be a big enough playground for most of them.
