Day 1: Arrive in Negombo

Meet your group and guide at a welcome meeting in the evening at your hotel in Negombo.

Day 2: Cave Temples of Dambulla

Head out of Negombo to drive to Dambulla (approx. 4 hours), where you will visit cave temples and the local market.

Day 3: Climb Sigiriya Rock

Travel from Dambulla to the imposing fortress Sigiriya Rock, which you will climb with the group and see the most amazing views of the lush surroundings. Return to Dambulla for a bike ride around the town, spotting temples and monuments on the way.

Day 4: Markets, Botanical Gardens & Spice Garden in Kandy

A scenic drive (approx. 3 hours) takes you to the city of Kandy, where you will explore the markets and hustle and bustle of this historic city, as well as the chance to visit the Botanical gardens and learn about the locally grown herbs and spices in the Spice Garden.

Day 5: Temple of the Tooth & Traditional Dancing

See more of Kandy, in particular the historic Temple of the Tooth, home to one of the country's most important relics. Spend the evening with a local family enjoying the delicacies of Sri Lankan cuisine and try your hand at dancing with local performers.

Day 6: Tea Plantations & Train to Bandarawela

From Kandy, you will head south-east through the green hills at the heart of Sri Lanka's tea-producing industry to what is known as 'Little England', which feels like a home-away-from-home with colonial buildings and even a fully-operational 'English' post office and a golf course. You will then take the train to Bandarawela, a journey with the most spectacular mountain views.

Day 7: Tea Plucking & Free Time

Enjoy Bandarawela at a leisurely pace, walking through the countryside and admiring the acre after acre of tea plantations. The afternoon is free to do as you wish.

Day 8: Udawalawe National Park & Safari Camping

Travel to Uda Walawe National Park to spot wildlife including the greatest number of herds of elephants on any part of the island. After lunch, head to the Elephant Transit Home to learn about these magnificent creatures, then head out on a late-afternoon safari to look out for leopards. Pitch up at your campsite for the evening.

Day 9: UNESCO World Heritage Site of Galle Fort & Kite Flying

Head to the beach town of Marissa and learn about one of the most important UNESCO sites in Sri Lanka, Galle Fort. Later get hands on, making your own kites to fly. 

Day 10: Free Day

More time to yourself today - perhaps explore by bike, head to the beach or go for a swim, Re-join the rest of your group for an evening visit to Galle, with luxurious and traditional shops and places to eat, and from where you have the most amazing sunsets.

Day 11: Colombo

Make the journey towards the island's capital, Colombo, explore the sights and sounds of this whirlwind city then spend the afternoon with the group at a large park where you can play cricket or fly kites, then head back into the city for your last meal with the group.

Day 12: Time to Go Home

Fly home or extend your stay to explore some more or for more time at the beach – perhaps learning to surf.
