Azores Family Adventure
This is a fabulous opportunity to explore and experience the Azores as a family, based on the island of São Miguel, where you'll try your hand at canyoning, kayaking, cycling, hiking and snorkelling, in the company of expert guides and instructors. Wildlife is also high on the agenda, with the opportunity to go whale-watching, and maybe see some dolphins too.
You'll also sample local gastronomic delicacies, see some stunning sights and explore natural wonders including volcanic terrain and hot springs.
The Azores is a fantastic destination for a family activity holiday – one best suited to ages 8+ (younger children can attend but may not be allowed to take part in all activities). The maximum group size is 21.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Ponta Delgada on São Miguel Island.
Day 2: Explore the blue and green lakes of the Sete Cidades area on foot, by bike and by kayak, before visiting a pineapple plantation.
Day 3: Boat trip to look for whales (and maybe dolphins too). Later, explore volcanic lava tubes.
Day 4: Hiking to a beautiful waterfall on the Faial da Terra trail. In the afternoon, learn about the Priolo, one of Europe's most endangered birds.
Day 5: Canyoning through the Ribeira dos Caldeiroes canyon, then visit the volcanic beach at Ribeira Quente.
Day 6: Ascend the mountain for views of the 'Lake of Fire', then visit a volcano, 600m from the shore, where you can swim and snorkel in the crater lagoon.
Day 7: Visit the Valley of Furnas, taking a walking trail around the fumaroles, hot springs and mud pools. Lunch will be cooked by the underground heat. In the afternoon, visit the botanical gardens with their thermal pools, geysers and beautiful collection of plants.
Day 8: Fly back to the UK or extend your stay with a few days on the island of Terceira, or a few days in a luxury hotel.
