Arenas del Mar Beach & Rainforest Resort, Manuel Antonio
It is rare in Costa Rica to find a hotel right by the beach, but this is one that is. Surrounded by rainforest, right at the edge of the Manuel Antonio National Park, Arenas del Mar provides 5* service in a stunning setting looking out on the ocean. A few steps and you are on the beach and wildlife is abundant, with guests often sighting sloths, monkeys, tucans and others from their balconies or around the resort.
The team at the hotel are proud of their country and take pleasure in sharing it with their guests, whether that is in the delicious cuisine they serve in the restaurants or by their in-house naturalists introducing you to the amazing flora and fauna that is all around. They also take sustainability and conservation very seriously. They have turned their 11-acre grounds from a plantain farm into lush rainforest, creating a biological corridor for wildlife and connecting areas around the National Park. They buy local produce and employ local people as well as supporting local communities. There are no single-use plastics (in fact they have reused discarded farming plastic in their construction) and they have their own hydroponic vegetable garden.
This is a beautiful place to relax in but they also offer a range of family activities that will immerse you in this wonderful country - from surfing on the beach right by the hotel to taking a zipline through the rainforest, learning to make traditional food to taking a night walk in the rainforest - an amazing time to discover the wildlife of the rainforest as it 'wakes up'.
This small hotel has only 37 rooms yet offers so much, it really is a fantastic choice for a family holiday in Costa Rica.
