Self-Catering Family Holidays in the Caribbean

Most people jetting off for a family holiday in the Caribbean will be heading for a hotel or resort, but self-catering accommodation is available across the region, including on the family-friendly islands of Saint Lucia, Jamaica, Barbados and Grenada.

The advantages of self catering in the Caribbean are the same as in the rest of the world – it’s is generally less expensive than staying in a hotel and offers you greater flexibility and freedom. Having somewhere to cook also means you can try out the amazing local produce from markets and shops, and it’s also useful for those holidaying with picky children in a region where familiar dishes are not always readily available in restaurants.

Some of our handpicked recommendations in the Caribbean are small complexes handy for those on a lower budget. Others are villas that are actually part of a luxury resort, complete with sparkling state-of-the-art kitchens. Whether you actually do much cooking in them is a bit of a moot point, especially if you’re staying in the resort an all-inclusive basis. However, self-catering facilities are always useful for heating bottles and baby food, and for making snacks and perhaps also picnics. They’re also useful for those who prefer to stay in for breakfast.
